Moods of the Blue Ridge

This past week my wife and I took our kids on vacation to Wintergreen, a resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.  This was by no means a trip to take photos, however, the deck of our rental house has a pretty amazing view over the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Throughout our visit I just kept my tripod and camera handy whenever a beautiful scene unfolded.  This is the second time we have visited this same area and it's fun to begin to learn the light and various moods of the place.

My favorite time to photograph these mountains is several minutes after sunset.  It's the time of evening when the these mountains really earn their name and several deep shades of blue begin to appear.

The photograph above was taken on the first evening of our trip.  Each image was taken with my Nikon D300s and edited in Lightroom 4.
